The Last Time...

Updated: Sep 3
The last time I saw them shut the door to my car and walk away.
The last time I slept in a car covered in snow.
The last time I ate a mayonnaise packet because I had no food to eat.
The last time I ate a spoon of peanut butter because that was all I had.
The last time I spent Christmas in the backseat of my car.
The last time I walked away without saying goodbye.
The last time I learned the lesson in what love is not.
The last time I would leave my hometown and never return the same.
The last time I would wear the same clothes days in a row because I had no choice.
The last time I will ask myself what will people think if I speak the Lord's mind.
The last time I would spend my birthday alone at a rest stop.
The last time I ask for a French baguette from Panera because I was hungry.
The last time I let the rain from a car splash upon me as I rode along the sidewalk.
The last time I let a man tell me more than once that he doesn't want me.
The last time I watched my 'home' get towed away without warning.
The last time I would depend on someone to save me.
The last time I would look to the world to validate me.
The last time I would ask for permission to be great.
The last time I would try to convince someone to understand my vision.
The last time I would sleep in the fetal position on the ground, in the cold.
The last time I would hide my clothes outdoors.
The last time I would ask a stranger to help me with food.
The last time I would cry out to God and ask Him why.
The last time tears rolled down my face under the sun, moon and stars.
The last time I would see Florida through the eyes of just a tourist.
The last time I allow fear to keep me from moving forward.
The last time I allow my circumstance to dictate my future.
The last time I repeat 'my story' to people who don't listen to understand.
The last time I would have a cop tell me to pack up my belongings and move along.
The last time someone would look upon me with disgrace.
The last time someone would clutch their bag a little tighter when I walk by.
The last time someone would double lock their doors when I ride by.
The last time I was denied a cup of water just to make noodles.
The last time I saw them point and laugh at my situation.
The last time I read the room and knew not to return.
The last time I watched an expecting couple walk hand in hand with joy.
The last time I sat outside and watched a child smile and wave at me from inside the window.
The last time my Thanksgiving meal would be a hospitality breakfast I took back to my room.
The last time I would find a random five dollar bill in the parking lot when I had nothing.
The last time I would second guess myself on what the Holy Spirit said.
The last time I would betray myself just to keep people around.
The last time I would allow anyone to convince me.... that GOD'S WAY WON'T WORK.
The last time.
